We are beginning to provide anesthesia services for the new “keyhole” heart procedure. Because the catheterization is different from the traditional open heart procedure we are in need of determining the appropriate code for billing. We are under the opinion that is should be 93501 (as the catheter is directed via TEE rather than blood flow) but would like some advice from anyone who has experience with this. Also, is a modifier necessary?

Thanks,
Dave
