Good Morning,

Patient comes in to see orthopedic surgeon under Workers Comp. While being seen for work comp injury he also is seen and evaluated for a new complaint unrelated to the Workers Comp injury. Two distinct notes are documented.

Can you bill each E&M to their respective insurance carriers, one to WC and one to Commercial for the distinct body parts on the same date?

I have not encountered this before.

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes you can as long as you have two separate encounters documented. One to address
the problems for comm. ins and the other to address the w/c issues.
