Patient seen for 23472 (arthoplasty, glenohumeral joint, total shoulder) d/t lt shldr OA. Later in the day, it was determined that she sustained an intraoperative periprosthetic fracture, which led to same day procedure (ORIF-23615) to repair. I filed the 23472, as is, then the 23615 with a -78 mod. The SECOND procedure paid without issue; the initial one denied as: 'Not covered when performed during the same session/date as a previously processed service for the patient.' How do I get the initial procedure paid? If anything, I would've thought the issue would have been with the 2nd one.
