I am the medical coder for eyecare. I have an encounter for a patient who was referred to our practice for iritis, and was scheduled with an optometrist, who is billing procedure 99202 for the exam. The optometrist referred the patient to one of our ophthalmologists, who performed a laser procedure that same day. Is modifier 57 still appended to the E/M code? Should any modifiers (besides the anatomical one) be appended to the procedure?
