To those in pediatrics...I've been asked a question that I cannot find any specific data on...I have a client that performs umbilical clamp removal in the office. They use a special clamp cutter to do this. This is specifically removal of the clamp and not the actual stump. Looking for any feedback...is this part of the visit or is there a code out there to cover this??

No code for umbilical clamp removal

The removal of an umbilical clamp is not a separately reportable procedure. The physician should report an evaluation and management service related to the evaluation and decision to remove the clamp and any related counseling (similar to removal of a foreign body without incision).

Best wishes,
Cindy

I do not have an authoritative source for this answer. I searched CPT Assistant and didn't find this question addressed there. However, my answer is supported by coding advice from the American Academy of pediatrics (eg, https://publications.aap.org/aapnew...-to-bill-for-pediatric-procedures-without-CPT). I also note that there is also no CPT code describing umbilical cord clamping or removal. Many services are reported with E/M codes (eg, removal on non-impacted cerumen, removal of a ventilating tube from an ear without general anesthesia). If you have seen something that contradicts this, I would appreciate a chance to review it. Cindy
