Advice needed. We're an Ob/Gyn so some of the laws pertaining to birth control and std testing are considered confidential and protected for minor's. BUT as a minor they are not legally financially responsible for their account balances. How do you guys handle billing for minor patients? If you put the mom or dad as the responsible party and a bill is sent to them you are releasing patient info such as the date of service and the procedures that were billed. We already advise them that their insurance companies will send an eob to the policy holder but what are the legal ramifications for billing statements?

Thanks,
Sherry
