Wiki Unfinished Reports

Hello,

Unfortunately one of our medical providers passed away. He did not complete A LOT of his reports nor sign them. I'm being asked if I can bill using only his flow sheet without a report...is this allowed?? Also, the flowsheets don't have a signature. What do I do? and how can I explain myslef?

By submitting a bill to the insurance company seeking payment you are telling them that the documentation that you have supports the codes being billed. You have incomplete documentation that is not authenticated by the performing provider. I would think that should answer the question. You may want to remind your office that there are legal issues here because you are seeking payment from a third party. That comes with requirements that need to be met. Ask them if they want to pay the money back with possible fines.
