I thought I read somewhere that unna boots must be applied by a phyisican or NPP, not the ancillary staff. Did I dream this or is it a fact? :o

From what I've read, Medicare considers Unna Boot a dressing, rather than a cast and says it is included in 29580, the appplication code, so it can be applied by nurse or other NPP, such as phys assist., or NP, these codes should not be reported. I also believe that if it is not the physician doing the dressing, he atleast has to be in the suite, he does not have to be in the room where it is being performed. Check out SuperCoder.com, they have this information.
