Hello,
I am trying to find out if it is actually considered an upgrade if a patient has and existing dual chamber pacemaker and is receiving a dual chamber ICD. If it IS considered an upgrade, where can I find something in writing that tell me this?

No this is not considered an upgrade. An upgrade would be if you have a single chamber pacemaker and go to a dual chamber pacemaker. Not a pacemaker to an icd. Look at code 33214.
