We recently starting coding and billing for an urgent care that seems to think every time they send someone to the hospital is is an automatic 99205/99215. I just want to see if anyone else is coding/billing like this?
No, that's incorrect coding. Code assignment has to be based on the documentation and on whether or not the documentation meets the definition of the code level (in this case whether or not the documentations supports the MDM or the amount of time require for those codes). Sending a patient to the hospital, by itself, doesn't meet the requirement for a level 5 visit.
