I have been asked to add a urine dipstick as a protocol prior to a glucose tolerance test. 1 patient came in to have a GTT and the first check afetr the glucola revealed a grossly elevated blood glucose, so now someone has decided that everyone who has a GTT should have a urine glucose by dipstick to make sure they are not spilling urine prior to the glucola administration. I think it may be a nice protocol, but not really medically neessary for everyone. Do you know of any regs that address the protocols just to "see" if something is there before proceeding with another test?

Thanks for any help.
