Hello, I have an unusual procedure for removal of a calcified ureteral stent.
A cystoscope was passed per urethra and the stent was grasped.. At this point the ESWL was performed.
While performing the ESWL I was pulling gently on the stent At. 61 shocks I was able to remove the stent...
The stent was removed completely from the patient.. A right -sided Retrograde pyelogram was then performed.
Contrast was injected through a catheter in the rt ureter. The patient was noted to have moderate rt hydroureteronephrosis all the way to the level of the bladder..
Efflux of contrast was noted with the catheter and the bladder was drained.
Dr. is wanting to Code for the
Rt EWSL CPT-50590
Cystourethroscopy with removal of ureteral stent CPT- 52310
Cystourethroscopy with urethral catheterization, with or without irrigation, installation or ureteropyelography, exclusive of radiologic service CPT code 52005
Can someone take a look at this one for me
Thanks,
Carol

The 52310 and 52005 will bundle, because the 52310 literally bundles into just about everything, so he's going to have to pick one. Either will be allowed with the 50590. I'd probably be more inclined to bill the 52005 because it was instrumental in the hydro diagnosis. On the flip side, the 52310 is the reason why the procedure took place to begin with.
