Wiki Use of 59 modifier for xrays

I just heard that an outpatient x ray facility (mind you they do not have a coder on staff) is using the 59 modifier when billing xrays for both hands and wrists. Is this correct? I just want to see if other coders are doing this.

RT and LT are appropriate, but some payers prefer a -59. Also, I think it depends largely on the billing scrubber you're using.

There's nothing wrong with appending a -59 on Rad services. With some scenarios it's required.
