I'm trying to find any other oncology clinics in MO or actually anywhere that gets paid by using V58.11, V58.12 or V58.0 as primary. I've been trying to prove to my bosses that using it as a secondary is against the coding guidelines. Thanks!

I code outpatient oncology accts for a MO hospital. We use v5811 as primary for all of our patients who come in for chemotherapy. We haven't had any problems getting paid. There are some guidelines in the Fourth Quarter 2007 Coding Clinic re: when to use the V code as primary. Pages 192 - 205
Hope this helps.

Guidelines in ICD-9 offer some of the highest form of compliance . . . those state V58.11/2 is appropriate for placement as the Primary Dx when specific conditions are met.

Peds Hem/Onc

One of our clinics is peds Hem/Onc we use V58.11 as the primary when the patient is in for Chemo only.
If the doctor is doing an E&M visit prior we bill their condition as primary and
V58.11 as secondary. We have not had a problem billing this way.
