Hello All,

Looking for some guidance on the legality of the following situation: A patient comes in for lab work and the physician or phlebotomist missed something on the order and the patient has to come back. Do you no charge the venipuncture when the patient comes back as a courtesy because it was our error? Does the venipuncture go on the claim with $0.00 or can you leave it off completely? Do we bill the patient insurance because the service was completed?

Thanks

If the error was within our own office or staff, then we treat the return visit as a courtesy and there is no additional charges to the patient or the insurance carrier.

We would leave it off the claim with a note in our records that it was a courtesy visit due to an internal error.
