Venipuncture - When would it be appropriate

When would it be appropriate to bill for the venipuncture. Our lab does the draw, but the specimen is sent out for processing?? Would this be the time that the venipuncture code would be appropriate? If our lab is performing the lab draw and also processing the specimen is it still appropriate to bill the venipuncture code??

If your lab tecs are performing a venipuncture and documenting it, then you need to be billing for it. Even if you send the lab out to be processed, you are still doing the work of the venipuncture.
