If a patient is a diabetic, comes through the ER, and the final dx is chronic venous stasis with leg ulcer would I just code 459.81 and 707.10? The doctor makes no connection with the DM in his final impression. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
 
If the doctor did not connect the ulcer to the diabetes, then you have to go with 250.0X, unless you can escalate for clarification. They would have to indicate that it is a diabetic or vascular ulcer to make the connection.
