Does anyone know how to verify a patient's Medicare eligibility when you are not a provider? I used to work in a medical practice and knew of several ways, all of which required a PTAN and/or NPI when doing so. I recently went to work in a law firm and am trying to verify Medicare info on some clients, but everything I try requires a PTAN or NPI number when registering. Unfortunately, the clients themselves do not know or understand their insurance coverage.

If you go to the NPI website, enter the doctor detail under the individual link, you should be able to acquire the NPI. https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPESRegistry/NPIRegistryHome.do
