Wiki Watchful Waiting Prostate Cancer

Can prostate cancer be coded dx 185 if patient is not receiving treatment and is in "watchful Waiting". I couldn't find anything from Coding Clinic. Can anyone please help?

I would say 'yes' based on the fact that the patient does have active cancer. The fact that no treatment is ongoing doesn't change that. The same would go for someone who chooses not to pursue any treatment for their cancer.

If it was documented as 'no evidence of disease' AND there was no further treatment directed towards the cancer, I would code personal history of prostate cancer.
