Medical Billing & AR Specialist
Compensation: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Please Note: This is an AR-focused billing position. Candidates whose primary experience has been in charge entry, payment posting, or front-end billing without extensive insurance follow-up, denial management, and accounts receivable experience may not be the best fit for this role.

We are a national healthcare consulting company dedicated to helping independent physician practices across the country improve their revenue cycle, operations, and financial performance. As our organization continues to grow, we are expanding our in-house billing team and are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & AR Specialist to support our diverse client base.
This is not an entry-level billing position, nor is it a role focused primarily on payment posting or charge entry. We are looking for an individual who excels at working accounts receivable and insurance follow-up—someone who is relentless in pursuing outstanding claims, identifying reimbursement trends, resolving denials, and maximizing collections for our clients.
Success in this role requires someone who has spent their career billing for independent physician practices, where resourcefulness, accountability, and a thorough understanding of the physician revenue cycle are essential. Coding knowledge is required. CPC certification is welcomed but not required.
This position requires 10+ years of medical billing experience in an independent physician practice. Experience billing exclusively for hospitals or hospital-owned health systems will not be considered.

What You'll Be Responsible For
- Aggressively manage insurance accounts receivable to maximize collections for multiple independent physician practices.
- Investigate, resolve, and appeal denied, rejected, and underpaid claims.
- Perform timely and persistent follow-up on outstanding insurance claims.
- Analyze payer trends and identify recurring reimbursement issues.
- Review documentation and coding for billing accuracy.
- Prepare and submit insurance appeals.
- Monitor timely filing deadlines and payer-specific billing requirements.
- Communicate with insurance representatives, providers, and practice staff.
- Collaborate with physicians and consulting team members to improve revenue cycle processes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce denials and improve reimbursement outcomes.
- Maintain documentation of follow-up activities and claim resolutions.
- Stay current on payer policies, coding updates, and reimbursement guidelines.
- Minimum of 10 years of medical billing experience in an independent physician practice is required.
- Experience billing exclusively for hospitals or hospital-owned health systems will not be considered.
- Demonstrated expertise in insurance AR management and claim follow-up.
- Proven success recovering aged accounts and resolving reimbursement issues.
- Extensive experience preparing insurance appeals.
- Coding knowledge is required. CPC certification is welcomed but not required.
- Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS Level II, modifiers, and payer guidelines.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers' Compensation billing.
- Excellent communication, organization, and independent problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Athenahealth, AdvancedMD, eClinicalWorks, ModMed, Tebra, Ensora, WoundExpert, or similar systems preferred.
