Can I use code Z71.89 ( other specific counseling) with a wellness visit code 99396. The patient is here to establish care
 
99396 is for an established patient not a new patient. 99386 is new patient age appropriate preventive physician exam

It will depend on what actual services take place. My personal physician requires a full physical exam on the first visit before they will schedule any sick visits. If its just a get acquainted visit and not a full physical exam, you would not be able to bill these codes. DX is also wrong as this isn't a counseling visit, There are specific DX codes for exams in the absence of illness or injury in the Z00-Z13 range. Typically it will be a Z00.- code
