Pt came into the office and we had to call an ambulance. We inserted an IV into her and gave saline only through it. We inserted the IV for the strict purpose so that the ambulance could use it to give her pain meds. The ambulance arrived when we finished the insertion.

How do we code this from a CPT persepctive? Thanks.
 
Hi Dawson:

Sounds like a saline lock or an IV with saline to KVO was inserted. 36000, introduction of needle or intracatheter, vein can be used for a peripheral vein, as well as the external jugular vein.
