I need to know what CPT code would be used for a substance abuse residential program. I work for a free-standing psychiatric hospital that offers 24/7 treatment in its residential program. The 2023 book indicates that the SNF codes should be used for psychiatric residential patients and the Home/Residence Codes should be used for substance abuse residential. However, reading the details of the Home/Residence codes they sound like outpatient programs (they use the outpatient prolonged service code, no discharge code, etc.). There is no real guidance from payor policies on the matter. Does anyone have experience using these codes or can anyone confirm that the Home and Residence Codes are correct for the services we are offering?
