Z34.91 Encounter for supervision of normal pregnancy, unspecified, first trimester

is considered unacceptable as a principal diagnosis as it describes a circumstance which influences an individual's health status but not a current illness or injury or the diagnosis may not be a specific manifestation but may be due to an underlying cause.

Just confused on to what the unspecified actually means.

All Z34 codes are first listed only allowed. You find this in the guidelines. Unspecified would be if the provider did not specify whether this was the patients first or subsequent pregnancy.
