what IS a bone Marrow Transplantation?

I know it sounds stupid - and also perhaps belongs in a different section (orthopedics) but I decided that hematology coding experts might have a reference for a definitive answer.
We are seeing ortho/spine surgeons using CPT code 38241 autologous bone marrow transplantation when they harvest bone marrow and extract stem cells, mix it with platelet rich plasma and inject it into vertebral discs.
The CPT manual only uses the word transplant though CPT assistant includes the word infusion.
Does anyone have documentation that this would or would not constitute correct coding for this (investigational) procedure?
Thanks.
