We have patient's who come into the office for a blood draw (PSA) and/or to drop off a UA. If that pt's provider is out of the office for the day (in surgery) but reads the results the next day or even later the same night, which doctor gets to bill? I always bill under the rule of which ever doctor is in the office gets to bill but if that doctor isn't even looking at the results, should they still get to bill?

you must use the provider in the office in 24J, however in 17 you can use the qualifier :
DN Referring Provider
DK Ordering Provider
DQ Supervising Provider
then the corresponding provider name
