I am wanting to take an exam to be certified. I know every job posted requires certification these days. However I have over 15 years experience in the medical billing field mostly in family practice doctor's office. I am wanting to take a exam but I am not to sure which one. The reason being is even though I do medical billing in Family Practice field, I still have to code the diagnosis in order to do the billing. I would eventually down the road would like to get a position working at home and I know most of those positions require Certification. Any help would be appreciated at this point.

Thanks!

I would recommend getting your CPC, it is the certification most requested my potential employers. Once you get your CPC, you can always look into specialties such as family practice. Your CPC is general knowledge for physician based coding. Hope this helps you out.
