We have some patients that are seen in the hospital wound care clinic. If they are out of their global and we're able to charge this visit, would I use codes 99212-99215 for the visit or is there another E&M code I should be using?

also re: wound clinic visits

If the patient is in the global of their surgery, are we able to charge for that visit or does it have to be 99024? The patient also has diabetes and morbid obesity.

Thank You!

If the patients are outpatients at the hospital, you would bill 99212-99215 with a place of service code 19 or 22 (depending on whether the clinic is on- or off-campus of the hospital). If you are still within the global period, you can only bill for the portion of the services that are unrelated to the surgery itself. The additional diagnosis is not the determining factor - you'll need to review the notes and only bill for the portion of the visit that is not postoperative care.
