I know CPT code 97597 covers the first 20cm, but does anyone know how large a wound debridement (minimal size) has to be to be covered by Medicare? Thank you

Hi,

There is no specific minimal size criteria for selective wound debridement to be considered coverable by Medicare. Usually Medicare sees minimal wounds not to be under selective debridement category, however if a small wound requires tunneling that may be covered irrespective of size.

Thanks,
Manny
