Wiki Wrong Referring on Claim

Hello,

I hope someone can help me. If we accidentally put a wrong referring provider on our report and billed it to Medicare that way, do we need to refund Medicare and submit a corrected claim? Somehow it was discovered months after the payment went through. How do I rectify this and is it required that I contact Medicare to update this information?

Any information or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Amy

Amy, Medicare has a Reopening phone line to call when clerical errors are made on claims. Try to find that phone # on your Medicare website and just make a phonecall to correct the info. It may be that nothing else will be needed and no money will be taken back. :)
