If Clinic A examines a patient and orders a X-ray but the X-ray machine is down and the patient is sent to Clinic B. Clinic B performs the X-ray, which clinic can bill for the X-ray? It is my understanding that Clinic A can bill for the EM only and Clinic B can bill for the X-ray and possible nurses visit. Any advice, suggestions or cheat sheets will be much appreciated.

Each clinic will bill for the work that was done in their own clinic unless there is a reciprocal billing arrangement in place or one clinic is purchasing the services from the other.

A nurse visit would not be justified if the patient was only sent to the second clinic for an x-ray. Here's a good reference tool on the requirements for billing a nurse visit: Procedure Code 99211 Job Aid
