I'm a bit confused on a situation. One of the pos 11 primary care offices is billing for xrays. They make the order and send the patient to have the x-ray done at different office in the building (the student health clinic) The student health clinic informed us they do not bill the xrays, they send the xray to the affiliated hospital to be read and interpreted. Is it appropriate that the primary care office bills for the xray or should it be the hospital?

X-rays

If your facility is taking the films, you would bill the appropriate CPT with a -TC modifier, the reading radiologist would bill their portion with the appropriate CPT with a -26 modifier. (the Rad would also bill with a location of 11) Since the hospital did NOT obtain the films they would not bill for any portion of it. (unless the patient was actually imaged at the hospital and not the clinic, in that case you wouldnt be billing for any of it since no part of it was done by your facility).
