CPT Code 73092 - Xray lower extremity, infant, minimum of 2 views
CPT Code 73592 - Xray upper extremity, infant, minimum of 2 views

These two CPT codes are specifically for infants, however, we perform these procedures on children over 12 months of age. Since we can't use CPTs 73092 & 73592 for non-infants, what CPT code(s) would you use? Would you use unlisted code 76499? If not, what would you recommend? Please cite references.

According to the AMA Infants are children aged 1 month to 1 year (12 months). Children over 1 year (12 months) you would use the CPT according to the specified site and views.

I wouldn't use the unlisted code - I'd use the appropriate x-ray code for the body part being imaged.

For example, 73090 is an x-ray of the forearm and 73590 is an x-ray of the tibia & fibula. There are additional codes for x-rays of the arm & leg, depending on what specifically is being imaged.
