Wiki Your opinion about external cause coding for gunshot wounds?

The state and national databases that use billing code data give incredibly valuable information about who's getting shot and where. There are a couple of quirky things about the data, though. I'd love to speak with a few coders around the country to understand the process you go through when you decide which external cause code to assign a gunshot wound.
