The state and national databases that use billing code data give incredibly valuable information about who's getting shot and where. There are a couple of quirky things about the data, though. I'd love to speak with a few coders around the country to understand the process you go through when you decide which external cause code to assign a gunshot wound. Please email me at cbarber@hsph.harvard.edu if you'd be willing to chat by phone. I want to be sure we're not misinterpreting the data, and I figure coders are the best people to ask. I know it's an odd request - but it'd be a huge help. Thanks.
