Does anybody know. If a child comes in for a "otitis media" then comes back a couple weeks later. Just to follow up and make sure the infection is gone.Is it ok to use the ICD-10 code Z09 (enc for f/up after completed tx for cond other than malig neop). It also say's to use add code to identify any applicable hx of disease code (Z86-Z87) So would that be ok to use Z87.898 (prsnl hx of other specific condition). Thank you

I too have the same quandary...why not just use the Z00.00 code (in the case of an adult) in place of the Z09 since it is a routine check-up? The Z09 is specific to follow up after treatment for conditions other than neoplasm, but then what differentiates this from an adult health check-up NOS?
 
Z09 is for a resolved condition that requires no further treatment. The guidelines state that it is inappropriate to code a condition thT does not currently exist.
