I code for a group of Neonatologists who see patients in the hospital. When I prepped for ICD10, it was my understanding I needed to code Z38.XX for place and type of delivery.

I have been using the code for initial visits only. We just received a rejection from BCBS for #1 of 5 service dates and the only difference is the Z38.XX code. BCBS did not give an explanation for rejection. Is this code used by the hospital only? It says "initial birth record" in the description which is a little vague.
