My providers are assigning the Z98.89 for post op follow ups instead of the Z09. I am having a bit of a struggle trying to explain why Z09 vs Z98.89. I have read the guidelines but for me still does not seem clear. Could someone help me with this.

According to the guidelines for Z98.89 you also need to code any follow-up examination (Z08-Z09) so there is no way around not including the Z09
