MAC for Biopsy

Question: How should we code monitored anesthesia care (MAC) for a bone marrow biopsy? The biopsy procedure code is 85102 (bone marrow biopsy, needle or trocar), but there is no anesthesia code for it.

Answer: Code the anesthesia according to the biopsy site and append modifier -QS (monitored anesthesia care service) to indicate that MAC was used.
