Reader Question:

Catch FCSO Renal Angiography LCD Swap

Question: I got a notice that First Coast’s renal angiography LCD (L33715) is being retired. Does that mean the requirements and limitations no longer apply?

Answer: As of Oct. 31, 2016, First Coast incorporated renal angiography LCD L33715 into L36767 aortography and peripheral angiography.

The new LCD provides indications and limitations for a variety of angiography services, including renal angiography, and also provides a listing of ICD-10 codes that support medical necessity for the various relevant CPT® codes. For instance, some of the ICD-10 codes that support medical necessity for renal angiography codes 36251-36254 include I13.- (Hypertensive heart and chronic kidney disease ) and I70.1 (Atherosclerosis of renal artery).
