Question: How do I report a brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) test?

Answer: The test itself falls under code 83880 (Natriuretic peptide). The lab performing the test should report that code.
If you’re reporting the cardiologist’s review of the test, include that in the Medical Decision Making portion of your E/M code. Cardiologists may order this test in patients with chest pain.
