Question: Is there a code for removal of a temporary pacemaker?

Answer: You should not report removal of a temporary pacemaker separately.
According to the June 2000 CPT® Assistant, you should consider removal payment to be included in reimbursement for the upgrade to the permanent system or as part of the reimbursement for the insertion and replacement codes 33210 (Insertion or replacement of temporary transvenous single chamber cardiac electrode or pacemaker catheter [separate procedure]) and 33211 (Insertion or replacement of temporary transvenous dual chamber pacing electrodes [separate procedure]).
