The provider performs an injection in the joint between the sacrum and ilium on one side of the body, with the aid of imaging equipment to locate the injection site. He injects an anesthetic to relieve pain and or a corticosteroid, a powerful antiinflammatory medication. He may record a series of images to document the condition of the joint.
