The provider creates a bypass from one carotid artery in the neck to the carotid artery on the opposite side using a graft made of material other than vein, such as a prosthetic tube graft. This reroutes blood flow to maintain circulation, such as when one carotid or nearby vessels are blocked, narrowed, or intentionally covered during aortic repair.
