Summary

The provider inserts a catheter in a vein at the patient’s groin level or the neck and maneuvers the catheter to reposition an already placed filter device in the inferior vena cava, or the IVC. He visualizes the blood vessels through imaging guidance. The provider performs this procedure in patients to reposition the filter to a more appropriate position within the vein so that it can prevent a blood clot from the lower limbs from travelling up to the heart and lungs.
