In this procedure, the provider closes a fistula tract between the rectum and the vagina using either a vaginal approach or closing it through the anus. Providers only use these approaches for small fistula tracts. An ob gyn normally uses the vaginal approach, while a gastrointestinal surgeon normally uses the transanal approach.
