The provider decompresses the lumbar spine by partially removing the ligamentum flavum, a band of tissue at the back of the spinal canal that can thicken and press on spinal nerves. The service includes creating an access opening in the lamina (laminotomy), performing epidurography, and using imaging guidance (fluoroscopy or CT). This code applies to the first lumbar interspace, bilaterally.
