The provider decompresses the lumbar spine by partially removing the ligamentum flavum, a band of tissue at the back of the spinal canal that can thicken and press on spinal nerves. The service includes creating an access opening in the lamina (laminotomy), performing epidurography, and using imaging guidance (fluoroscopy or CT). This bilateral add–on code applies to one or more additional lumbar interspaces after the first.
