Summary

In this add on procedure, the provider repairs another herniated thoracic disc. A thoracic herniation causes pain which, depending on the type of herniation, may concentrate in the upper back, radiate to the chest or abdomen or result in myelopathy, the inflammation and swelling of the spinal cord.. The surgeon decompresses the nerve roots or spinal cord by removing all or a portion of the herniated disc. He uses grafts to fill the empty space created by the removal of the disc.
