The provider inserts a catheter through the skin (percutaneous approach) and guides it into the heart's arteries. They advance a specialized tool to remove or shave away plaque from a narrowed artery (atherectomy) and may also use a balloon to widen the artery (angioplasty). This code applies to atherectomy, with angioplasty when performed, in one major coronary artery and/or one or more of its branches.
