In this procedure, the provider gains percutaneous venous access through the internal jugular, subclavian, or femoral vein under fluoroscopic guidance. He obtains oxygen saturation measurements that indicate the amount of oxygen the blood is carrying as a percentage of the maximum it could carry, to evaluate cardiac output.
